American Psychological Association.  (2020).  The Publication Manual of the American Psychology Association (APA Manual), 7th Ed.  Washington, DC: APA.  The APA Manual provides guidance on research reporting standards for ~90 journals published by APA and is the dominant guide for publishing in the psychology and the social sciences broadly.  Across its prior editions, it has sold over 15 million copies. As chair of the Journal Article Reporting Standards (JARS) Qualitative task force, I co-developed the chapter on research reporting with M. Applebaum, chair of the JARS-Quantitative Task Force, based upon our task force reports and with support from APA staff.  In addition, I provided direction for the integration of qualitative research through the manual, provided feedback, and developed text for other sections (e.g., data sharing, piecemeal publication). This landmark chapter presented inaugural standards unique for qualitative, qualitative meta-analytic, and mixed methods in the field and reflected their standing as central psychological and social science methods.  It introduced into the manual a discussion of diverse epistemological perspectives as integral to the evaluation and reporting of methods in psychological reporting.

Levitt, H. M. (2019, September). Psychology of Women Quarterly – An invited special section “Toward a Theory of Gender”. This section was centered on my program of research on LGBTQ+ genders and the resultant empirically-based theory of gender that is inclusive of LGBTQ experience, including an introduction (Elliot Tebbe), my lead article, responses from gender researchers (Bonnie Moradi & Laurel Watson), and my rejoinder. Special section editor, Dawn Szymanski; Editor, Mary Brabeck.  Article: A Psychosocial Genealogy of LGBTQ+ Gender: An Empirically Based Theory of Gender and Gender Identity Cultures.  Psychology of Women Quarterly was ranked 1st of 144 journals in Women’s Studies for 2018.
