Teaching
With a background and interest in mathematics education, I try to stay up to date with the current trends in teaching mathematics. I employ a number of pedagogical techniques depending on course content and student population. Generically, I would describe my teaching style as active inquiry. In my courses students are required to interact and discover mathematics through problem solving and often students lead discussions by presenting problem solutions or proofs to the class. I find it extremely important for students to become inquisitive and self reflective as they progress through collegiate mathematics, in hopes that they will develop the tools for life long learning.
Below are a list of course I have taught at SCSU:
MAT-103 Mathematics for the Liberal Arts
MAT-104 Mathematics in the World Around Us
MAT-105 Mathematics for Elementary Eduction I
MAT-107 Elementary Statistics
MAT-120 College Algebra
MAT-122 Pre-Calculus
MAT-139 Calculus for the Social Sciences
MAT-150 Calculus I
MAT-178 Elementary Discrete Mathematics
MAT-250 Foundations of Mathematics
MAT-252 Calculus III
MAT-260 Geometry and the Arts
MAT-360 Foundations of Geometry
MAT-378 Discrete Mathematics
MAT-499 Independent Study (multiple sections involving Geometry and Graph Theory)
MAT-530 Foundations of Geometry
Additionally, I was the teacher of record for three different mathematics courses for elementary school teachers, Calculus 1-3, and instructed a computer based Pre-Calculus emporium while a graduate student at Auburn University.
