The previous trailer was purchased new in 2009. It has served its purpose well but was limited with 5.2k lbs axles giving it only 6k cargo capacity. The replacement trailer has 7.4k lbs axles giving it a cargo capacity of 10k lbs. Additionally tie down points rated at 4k lbs with provide a higher degree of strength for the motorcycle tie down points.
This is the type of hook to use.
Do not bring this type of hook
An example of two ways to pack your gear. One is in a single large gear bag. The other is in three smaller bags. With exception of boots, which most people leave out loose in the trailer due to dirt and moisture anyway, these will transport the same volume of gear.
Pack you stuff in smaller bags. The reason for this is simple. During the drive out some of the tie downs loosen and/or the load shifts. I have to climb over bikes in the trailer to adjust the load to prevent trailer rash. Large bags make that very difficult. You can bring as many smaller bags as you want, I only took the picture with three as a demonstration, but if you want to bring 6 smaller bags that is fine.
If you still want to use a large bag, the new trailer has a small vee-nose section with room for a few large bags. There is not enough room for everyone to use. So to be fair, if you want to use the vee-nose area it will cost you $100 extra first come first serve. Unlike the airlines, who charge more for luggage to make $, I am NOT interested in money. I am only interested in you putting your gear in smaller bags to make the three day drive out more manageable
1. Four (4) tie downs per bike with full length hooks. Use a permanent maker to put your name on them. Ratchet style tie downs are ok with the new trailer, but most people use cam lock type. Don’t use brand new tie downs that are not broken in yet, they are more likely to slip or stretch.
2. Arrange your motorcycles position such that the tie down positions are as symmetrical as possible. The reason is simple, if they are asymmetrical even slightly over the thousands of miles drive the motorcycle will start to move and lean over causing damage to it and what is near it. If you are not sure what this means, ask me.
3. If you want to use soft ties that is fine, but the tie down adjusting cam has to be on the floor end, not up by the bike. The reason is simple, it is almost impossible to tighten a tie down when the trailer is full if the cam is up by the motorcycle.
4. If you are next to the wall turn your handle bars so you have at least 2 inches of clearance.
5. Bike fuel tanks can have fuel in them but gas cans should be empty.
6. Bring any make model specific tools your bike requires, but I will have a basic load of typical tools, so don’t bring basic stuff.
7. Name tags on your gear and bags.
8. Guns unloaded & locked. Let me know which bag so I can show LEO if they ask.
9. Paper photo copy of ownership paperwork. Don’t give me originals as you will not be getting them back. Do not e-mail me a copy, I don't have a printer.
10. Wear easily removed shoes. Take them off BEFORE going in the house.
11. Toilet and sink in the garage now work, so no need to scare the neighbors by pissing in the yard.
12. Prolly doing pizza in the afternoon. I'll have some IPA's here. If you need anything beyond that to eat or drink please bring it.
13. Children / Wives / Girlfriend's / SO's welcome.
14. Bring a chair to hang out.
15. Park anywhere you want.
16. No contraband in your gear please. All police questions will be answered and owner info supplied.
17. ?'s, lemme know.
