Douglas Gurevitch received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at UC Santa Barbara in 1990, and is a registered Professional Engineer. He started his career working on medical instrument manufacture and development at New Image Industries. In 1995 he joined Sequana Therapeutics (later Axys Pharmaceuticals) and worked on key laboratory automation projects and engineering processes for drug discovery. He continued in the field with positions at Nanogen and as Director of Microarray Automation at Biocept, where he led the engineering efforts and automation projects for product development and manufacture. Since 2002 he has held the staff position of Senior Development Engineer for the Department of Bioengineering at UC San Diego, where he leads the department’s safety efforts, facilities efforts (including laboratory design) and runs the instructional laboratory. In 2017 his title was changed to Research & Development Engineer 4, but all duties remain the same.
