Dr. Roman Smirnov
(UCSD, MAE)
Roman Smirnov is a Project Scientist in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at UC San Diego whose research focuses on fusion energy, plasma physics, and plasma–material interactions, particularly through numerical modelling of edge plasma transport and dust/impurity dynamics.

With a background in computational physics and machine learning Dr. Clark's research focuses on the development and deployment of both reinforcement learning based shaped controllers and machine learning based plasma state classifiers.

Sidney Williams

A Physics PhD candidate in the Orlov Lab, Sidney’s research focuses on the Power Scrape-Off Layer width. He utilizes techniques from mathematical physics, chaos theory, turbulence theory, large scale simulation, and experimental data analysis to explore novel techniques for divertor heat load management.
