I am currently a professor and PI at Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (中国科学院物理研究所), Beijing, China since August 2019.
I received my B. S. and Ph.D. degrees in the field of Condensed Matter Physics from Nanjing university (advisor: Prof. Yening Wang, Co-advisor: Kehsin Kuo). My Ph.D project was performed in BLEM, Institute of Physics, CAS. I have been working in Laboratory of Ceramics, EPFL, Switzerland; Department of Materials Science and Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and the Physics Department at Arizona State University. Before joining IOP, I was working at Center for Functional Nanomaterials at Bookhaven National Laboratory as a Staff Scientist and then a Group Leader between 2008 and 2019. Since 2011, I have been an adjunct professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stony Brook University.
My current research focus on the investigation of interfacial chemical physics using advanced in-situ electron microscopy techniques. In the past years, we have applied the advanced (scanning) transmission electron microscopy ((S)TEM) and spectroscopy techniques to characterize catalysts, oxide thin film, electrode materials for energy storage device. In addition to the structural information, we are able to achieve the chemical information (composition, valence state, etc.) at sub-nano scale. We hope that our results can help to understand the relationship between structure/local chemistry and the performance in different systems, and help to improve the performance of catalysts/devices for energy convert/storage applications.
I have published more than 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals including Science, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, JACS, PRL, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, Advanced Materials series etc. Acting as the (co-)corresponding author, 40+ papers are published in journals with high impact factor(>10). I have given more than 40 invited talks in International Meeting and University seminars.
