Welcome to Dolls in the Image of Diana, Princess of Wales. This content was first published in 1998 and has been randomly updated and expanded. NEW!
NEW! Found in a couple of Etsy Shops. These have kind of grown on me since i first spotted them, but I have no talent in this area and my go-to crochet factory (Mom) has closed shop.
Go to Etsy and search for Amiguri doll Princess Diana or Amiville. One of the shops sells the pattern, the other the made up dolls for about $100. The patterns are cheap if you know someone who crochets (or can do it yourself, that's a bargain, even with buying the wool to make it up.) I've just added a new one of Diana's cantaloupe coloured going-away suit.
For those folks talented enough, devoted enough or demented enough, some companies & individuals have created patterns and kits for producing Diana items.
My wish for the past 20+ years has been that Simplicity, McCall's or one of the other pattern companies would simply get off their collective Buttricks and put out a definitive Diana pattern collection, including outfits from all periods of her life or even a "dress auction collection." In the meantime, here is a directory.
McCall's did do a Barbie sized pattern with a generic clone wedding gown & a few other outfits that *could* conceivably be adapted for Diana. Simplicity just shoved Diana's Flamenco gown unabashedly into a 1980's themed set with a Power Suit and an hommage to Flash Dance (7037) and did the wedding gown alongside a Cleopatra costume for Barbie.
If Barbie (or an equivalent sized clone like a Goldberger Way Out Toys Royal Diana or Street Players Diana) isn't your bag, theoretically, these patterns could be adapted using the Zoom feature on a photocopier. After 2011, there were a few Kate Middleton inspired wedding dress collections similar to these, but I haven't tracked them all down. I have however displayed the Simplicity Kate wedding gown pattern below.
Aileen's has been around a long time on the web. Oddly their 9 patterns haven't gained a lot of attention over the years. Most of the designs are relatively close, however the fit is somewhat poor and they have the potential to be put right by a dedicated seamstress. They are B*rbie-sized an can be used for the many 11 1/2" clones.
