I work with you on choosing the BEST possible music for your event. I don't have a "cookie-cutter" playlist and I don't follow a script. All events are individualized and are completely different.
I follow a process for gathering complete information about your event.
I ask questions and then analyze the information in order to create a 'musical framework' for your event. From this 'framework', I construct a preliminary set of songs, for your approval.
This is one way that I gather information in order to get the best musical matches for your event.
Prior to one month before the event, you will receive a preliminary list of songs that you are free to add any additional comments or requests. I don't play music that has not been approved.
You can consult with me as many times, as you need, and add input whenever you want. My goal is to make it a carefree and fun event for everyone who attends. You should never have to worry about music.
Stand behind a table and just hit the 'play' button. I am not a passive DJ; I spend a lot of time outside of the DJ booth because I love to dance and I encourage everyone to get out onto the dance floor with me.
Play music that has not been screened for lyrics that are appropriate for the occasion. Different audiences have varying levels of what is "socially acceptable" language. Some songs, however, are just not appropriate for a particular group.
Completely disregard what people want to hear. I always respect the musical tastes of my clients, even if I am not a fan of the genre that they like. At times, I may steer you in choosing a different song because of the occasion, the tempo or the lyrics but I always try to stay within the same genre or artist.
Sit on a stool while playing music. You will NEVER see me sitting down. I don't understand how you can call yourself a DJ while sitting. Sitting on a stool while playing music is unprofessional and just wrong. It conveys a message that the event is nothing to be excited about. A DJ that sits on the job is one that you should never hire.
Never engage with the guests or respond to what they like to hear. I do more than just play music. For many events, I am also the MC for the evening and I like to get everyone involved. I also adjust what I play to what people are responding to. I create a list of songs but I always expand the list depending on the response.
