John Danaher
Jiu Jitsu is a system of distinct steps
Take opponent to the ground.
Removes explosive, dynamic mechanical ability and motion.
Remove kinetic energy.
Get past opponent legs
Dangerous legs
pass guard.
Work way thru hierarchy of positions where effectiveness of striking improves
Sequence of pins (they score different points)
Value of the pins is measured by my potential to strike my opponent
Diminished ability of opponent to hit me
Increase ability for me to attach my opponent
Submissions
Now the question has to be asked. Where do leg locks fit into that system?
They don't fit comfortably into that system. Dean Lister said ‘ why ignore 50% of the body? When talking to Danaher about leg locks. Leg locks change the very nature of the sport. Without leg locks, Jiu Jitsu is a single orientation game. Work thru steps, get my head next to their head. Mono directional sport.
Leg locks make it two directional where you can go from head to legs. Where you can fall back and go from upper body to lower body. You can play reactions between upper and lower body.
