Uke - name for cooperative opponent. L - for left, R - for right. GR - Gordan Ryan
---------------------------------------------------------------
Talked about entry - centerline or back angle/take (in MMA, wrestling or BJJ)
never stay square with your hips. If Uke has right foot forward, my left leg is flat on the ground and I use my left foot to stop uke from stepping in between my legs. If uke shift stance, I also switch. But I will continue with uke right leg forward..
foot block. I use the bottom of my foot to stop their ankle from getting in between my legs.
or if they step across Uke R leg tries to go around my R foot to my R side) I sweep their foot to (R side) get towards their back, making them face away.
or if they step outside my L foot (My L knee is up), I just put in hooks for centerline position.
But say uke tries to step in between my legs. I block with my R foot and then shin on shin. I bring my L foot over my R blocking foot. Both of my feet to the inside as I hook Uke R leg with my L arm.
I bring my head to Uke's L foot. I slip my L knee by straightening my L leg. (I have to keep my R knee bent and to my chest so I don't get mounted)
Uke often tries to straight leg and face back towards me.
I throw my left leg up, around uke R leg, and put my L heel on uke R hip. The L leg allows me to elevate my hips. I bring my R knee over front of uke L leg close to my L heel. My L elbow is tight controlling uke R ankle in my armpit. Elevate my hip and off 45 degrees to back and L side of Uke to sweep them down.
(video 1)

Uke often tries to peel off one of my feet. if they remove my L heel from their R hip, I use my R hook in their L knee to extend and pull that leg forward (45 degree front & uke left), and that gives my space for my R hook over top (this goes into hip). i don't let uke stand upright. (they should or I can sweep them backwards, by dropping L foot to their ankle and opening) Uke needs to stay bent over and no upright.
I need uke weigh to get onto their L hand. If uke gets weight onto their R hand, they can use their L to push my foot down and back step to side control. I do not just extend. I use my L knee and turn it towards uke 45 left/forward while I extend.
(video 2)
A cool sweep is to get uke weight on to L hand enough that uke L heel raises off the ground. then I can use my R foot hook (as I bring my R knee close to my chest) to bring uke unweighted L foot to within my reach. I grab Uke L foot and hold on to it or pull it. Open my L knee to my L and sweep uke over. keep both feet and keep knees tight.
video 3 & 4
Ashi Garami (single leg X)
now i have the control position. my R knee is trying to touch my L heel surrounding Uke R leg. My R toes are under uke L hamstring. This makes it hard for uke to sit up and get to me. Or to turn in either direction.
now I need to expose their heel.
GR talked about using my R hand to grab behind uke R knee or calf muscle (deep, since people get sweaty). I use that grip to rotate uke R leg to their inside as I turn my knees up (L knee raises).
Uke heel is exposed. I try to get my L wrist right under Uke R heel/ ankle while keep my hands high. I bring my L foot over uke hips to uke L hip or
the floor. I pressure here to finish. Uke likely tries to roll out (to Uke L) to escape that pressure.
I keep my elbows by my ribs ! (tree with branches can't roll)
I need to keep the heel !
connection test
I rotate over my R shoulder. When my L knee touches the ground (my forehead is a post here). I bring my R knee closer to my ribs and put my R foot onto uke R side. ( I also need to scoot back towards them for my hips likely got further away when I brought my knee up) I need to keep the heel !! I have rotated thru and am on my L hip with both my feet on uke R side by uke hip. The heel is critical here more so than my feet at this moment. My R foot is closer to uke R hip and L foot is a little closer to me.
1) I pull both my heels to my but getting our hips closer.
2) my knees are tight but my L knee is really pressuring to the floor by uke R knee.
3) my hands are high and my chin is close to my hands. I am on my L shoulder or elbow.
4) I extend my hips

lost the heel or did not get the heel and have outside ashi garami
GR talked about who ever's head or hips (or both) is higher has the advantage.
So uke might try to get their captured heel closer to their hips so they can come up.
I rotate to my L and scissor my knees. My R hand goes to uke R lat (cross lat) to prevent them from getting to my head.
My L knee gets closer to my chest. My R leg extends. This exposes uke heel. I almost go face down with my butt preventing uke getting closer.
To unweight my L arm, I bring my head past center.
To get the heel, I put my arm forward and start to swim it to the outside. My palm turns upwards and I touch my ribs with my thumb. Scoop the heel, my wrist at uke ankle, not my elbow. Take my L hand and put on the inside of my thigh. now I can rotate back.
then same finish as above.
Uke figure fours feet to prevent retrieving the heel
my L arm scoops around uke L leg. I rotate to the R.
I work a toe hold on uke R leg. Must be a real attack.
Uke might use L leg to same their R foot. I just grab uke's R heel with an over grip. My R hand comes over their foot to simply grab their heel. I pull it back towards my armpit. My elbow goes high and comes over their foot, then I close my elbow. Nice knee bar here. also possible to toe hold while holding the knee bar and finishing with both.
Uke is able to get hips and head higher. Threatening to come up.
I walk my feet towards my head to gramby roll.
