Karnataka has been a pioneer in Industry. For several years now, the State has been consistently pursuing progressive Industrial policies to meet the changing needs of the State's economy and Industry. Over the last 100 years, the State has had the distinction of building a strong and vibrant Industrial base, which combines the intrinsic strengths of large industrial public sector undertakings, large and medium privately owned industries and a very wide and dispersed small scale sector.
The State has demonstrated its strength over a wide spectrum of sectors in industry and has outstanding examples of success in the old economy. In recent times, Karnataka has emerged as the knowledge and technology capital of the country making rapid strides in the new economy as well. IT and related industries, bio-technology and strong research and development institutions have given Karnataka a pride of place in the global market.
Karnataka is among the top Industrialised States in the country. The achievements in promoting hi-tech industries in key sectors like Electronics, Telecommunication, Information Technology, Precision Engineering, Automobiles, Readymade garments, Bio Technology and Food Processing have been noteworthy.
The State Government considers industrial growth as a means to mitigate poverty and unemployment. Development of industry, trade and service sector promotes higher capital formation, improves per capita income level, absorbs surplus work force. To realize these benefits and expedite socio economic changes, the State accords top priority for industrial development. In the process, it is aimed at advancing the cause of inclusivity, balanced industrialization and creating employment opportunities across different classes and categories of populace.
The State is endowed with rich natural resources across the State and such resources need to be optimally utilized for the benefit of local people. Value addition to the resources is one of the ways for optimizing the wealth available locally. This will also help for uniform spread of industries and economic activities throughout the State and will accelerate the pace of development especially the districts of North Karnataka. Through these measures, the Government would be able to readdress the much talked about issue of regional imbalances in development.
With these aims the Government of Karnataka is formulating the Industrial policies keeping mind the overall development of growth of industries in state. Reviewing and announcing new policies in every five years, by considering needs of the industrial sector. These policies aim at extending various Incentives and Concessions for the balanced growth of industries in the State.
