2016
Southeast Asian Studies Symposium 2016: The 5th annual Southeast Asian Studies Symposium returned to Oxford from 14 to 16 April 2016. It was held at the state of the art Andrew Wiles Building of the Mathematical Institute. It included over 80 panels presenting nearly 200 papers, along with 5 roundtables, 2 workshops, and 2 multi-day fora – the Southeast Asia Investment Forum, and the Southeast Asia Strategic Forum on Women, Business, and Economic Development.
EADI PhD Conference in International Development: The 5th Annual International PhD Conference in International Development took place on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 September 2016 at the School of International Development (DEV) at the University of East Anglia (UEA). The conference is organised in collaboration with the Ruhr University Bochum (Institute of Development Research and Development Policy, IEE; UAR Graduate Centre for Development Studies) and Erasmus University Rotterdam (International Institute of Social Studies, ISS, in The Hague). The event is sponsored by the University of East Anglia and the European Association of Development Research Institutes (EADI).
DSA Conference: The 2016 annual conference of the Development Studies Association (DSA) was hosted by the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) at the University of Oxford, taking place in the historic Examination Schools. DSA2016 offered three days of exciting keynotes, plenary sessions and parallel panels to over 580 academics and practitioners. Entitled Politics in Development, the conference theme gave a focus for some of the panels and papers.
ASEASUK Conference 2016: The conference featured over 250 papers, including 40 panels focusing on a wide variety of social, developmental, and political challenges facing Southeast Asia. Events also included panels, film screening, gallery tour, performance, publishers fair and evening network events. This conference provided a major venue for the dissemination of research on South East Asia in various disciplines for academics from both the UK and abroad and attracted over 350+ participants to SOAS.
2015
EuroSEAS conference 2015: The 8th European Association for Southeast Asian Studies (EuroSEAS) held its 8th conference from 11 to 14 August 2015 at the University of Vienna and the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, Austria. As an international and multi-disciplinary organisation, EuroSEAS has invited scholars and PhD students from all academic disciplines with an interest in Southeast Asia to join panels that explored relevant research topics from an interdisciplinary perspective as well as discuss theoretical and methodological aspects of research generated in the field of Southeast Asian Studies. Furthermore, round tables discussed recent developments in Southeast Asia and the EuroSEAS film programme presented documentaries about Southeast Asia.
2014
RiDNet parley: Does Research Make a Difference in Development? Bridging the gaps between research, policy and practice (12th November 2014, University of Leeds). This is an event initiated by Centre for Global Development in engaging researchers, particularly early-career and PhD students to discuss on how to bridge the gaps between research and policy making. The conference also invites experts from different agencies from all around UK. The event is succinctly summarised by this LSE blog post titled: Building bridges in development: Five recommendations to connect the islands of research, policy and practice.
2013
Workshop on Integrating Social Policies and the Delivery of Social Protection Floors (Siem Reap, Cambodia, 29-31 May 2013). In this workshop, I was invited as a moderator on a session talking about the implementation of single-window pilot activities in Indonesia, Cambodia, South Africa, and India.
