This is the new institution I have been joining from September 2013. The launch of the International Development Institute was celebrated with a 2-day conference in 7-8 November 2013. Established under the Global Institutes in King's College London, it adds particular emphasis on emerging economies alongside with five other institutes i.e. the Brazil Institute, the Lau China Institute, the India Institute, the Institute of North American Studies, the Russia Institute.
King's IDI hosts a number of experienced lecturers who previously worked under reputable institutions. They bring different perspectives on international development and have proven quality on their researches. Their focus varies from poverty, inequality, middle-class, demography, health care, decentralisation, social protection, and many more.
Given the current demand on aid industry and increasing popularity of development issues, King's IDI manages to attract a considerable number of talented students from various parts of the world. While it hosts only around 10 PhD students at its inception year, it will gather more people in the immediate future.
Besides academic activities, King's IDI held a number of events discussing popular topics on development with prominent speakers.
