Deposit Fire Department

Welcome to the Deposit Fire Department Website.  The Deposit Fire Department has proudly been serving the community since 1851.  Our district covers more than 150 square miles encompassing the Village of Deposit, Town of Deposit, Town of Sanford, Village of Sherman and Town of Scott.

The Deposit Fire Department is organized to prevent the loss of life and property from fire, to provide rescue and pre-hospital care in life threatening situations and provide confinement and suppression in the event of fire.

The Deposit Fire Department is proud to be rated as a Class 3 department by ISO.  ISO stands for Insurance Services Office, which is an independent, for-profit organization.  ISO scores fire departments on how they are doing against its organization’s standards to determine property insurance costs.

After analyzing the data that is collected, ISO assigns a Public Protection Classification (PPC) on a scale from 1 to 10. A Class 1 rating is the very best rating possible.

ISO conducts a field survey and scores departments across four key areas using the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS).  These areas include Emergency Communication Systems; Fire Departments, covering personnel, capabilities, training, equipment, etc.; Water Supply; and Community Risk Reduction.

Depending on where your property is located within our district determines if you are in the 3 or 3Y rating.  The Class 3 rating is for those properties within 5 road miles of a recognized fire station and within 1000′ of a fire hydrant. The second number, 3Y, is the rating for those properties within 5 road miles of a recognized fire station but beyond 1000′ of a fire hydrant.
