Amalgam Fillings

Amalgam (silver) fillings are the most popular form of filling as they are resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive. However, due to their dark colour, they are more noticeable than porcelain or composite restorations and are not usually used in very visible areas, such as front teeth. Amalgam contains a mixture of metals, usually mercury, silver, copper, tin and sometimes zinc. This mixture is ideal for filling cavities within the molars, being able to stand a good deal of wear and tear.
