This DBSA chapter was started in 2005 by John and Terri Weymouth after their daughter was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
"No one understood what we were going through and what she was going through. We started the group originally for friends and family support and quickly realized there was a strong need for consumers (the consumers of mental health services) to meet and support each other." --Terri Weymouth
The group meets weekly, with rare exceptions, and snacks and drinks are provided by members and supporters. DBSA Chapter meetings are designed to help both consumers and friends and family find comfort and direction in a confidential and supportive setting, and where you can make a difference in the lives of others.
In addition to participating in the group meetings, you will meet people in Indianapolis who can relate to your experiences. You may learn valuable information about mental health professionals and services in the Greater Indy area, as well as tips and techniques others use to manage their illness.
Other services our chapter offers in addition to the support group include educational emails, a lending library, and special events. We also offer information on mental health professionals in the area.
