Tee it Forward - Guidelines for moving to the forward tees

The Golf Committee has approved new rules for golfers to move to the forward tees. These rules are being adopted in the spirit of the USPGA Tee it Forward program in order to improve enjoyment of the game and speed of play for everyone. The rules are as listed below and may be updated from time to time based on the success of the program.

1. Anyone over 80 can move to the forward tees at their own discretion regardless of handicap.

2. Anyone over 70 with a handicap of 25 or more can move to the forward tees at their own discretion.

3. Anyone with a handicap over 30 can request to be moved to the forward tees regardless of age. This will be subject to approval by the Golf Committee.

4. Anyone with a handicap over 30 is subject to a league request to move to the forward tees in order to speed up play if the Golf Committee determines that their driving distance makes it appropriate to do so.

5. Any player that meets the above criteria can request a 5 round tryout of the forward tees before he/she makes a final decision.

6. In general, the forward tees for men is the most forward marked tee box which is also usually the women's tee and the forward tee for women will be the front of the women's tee box but the league reserves the right to designate these tees according to individual course circumstances. If the men's number 1 tee is on the same tee box as the women's tee, the women can play from the front of the tee box.

The league automatically adjusts the handicaps of players who move forward, in most cases by 2 or 3 strokes. This is in accordance with PGA handicap rules. The players who will benefit most are those with good short games who don't have the driving distance to get close to or on the greens in regulation.

Players will not be allowed to move back and forth between tees without a good reason (for example an injury or a tryout of the forward tees).
