This page provides information and guidelines for how we wage war in Narnia. It is only about Clan Wars. Please see the Home page for General clan guidelines and information.
In Narnia, we take Clan Wars seriously. We're not a "hardcore" War Clan that berates or kicks people who don't earn three stars from every attack, but we do have guidelines that we expect all members in wars to follow. Ignoring these can result in being kicked.
This page assumes you're already familiar with the information in the Clan Wars Overview on the Clash of Clans Wiki website. So, check that out first.
We war pretty much all the time. We expect you to keep your war participation preference updated: Opt-In or Opt-Out.
If your account is set to "Opt-In/Green" when we start a war, you must use both attacks and follow the instructions on this page or you will be kicked.
Always Opt-Out of Wars if any of the following items are upgrading and will not be finished before the end of Preparation Day (unless given explicit permission from the Clan Leader or a CO in the war):
A Hero (Barbarian King, Archer Queen, Grand Warden, or Royal Champion)
Spell Factory or Dark Spell Factory
All Barracks or Dark Barracks (If all are upgrading, you can't cook troops)
"My badge says Opt-In/Green, why am I not in the war?"
The game only allows multiples of 5 to participate in wars. That means we have to have teams of 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. If, for example, the number of members who want to war is 11 or 12, we have to leave one or two people out. Sometimes we leave out a lower-level player who is still learning how to war. Other times, we leave out a higher-level player so we get an easier opponent. Don't take it personally. We try not to leave someone who "opts-in" out of two wars in a row.
Note: If you've been unreliable in a war or wars - not attacking on time or as expected according to this page - or otherwise not following the Clan Guide, you may be left out of wars for a time. Don't complain. Apologize and use this time to think about how you can improve and be a more reliable member moving forward, so when you are allowed to war again, you're at your best and your clanmates can appreciate your participation.
"My badge says Opt-Out/Red, why am I in the war?"
If the number of members who want to war is 13 or 14, it may be better to "draft" one or two people who have red badges than to leave out three or four people. You have a choice now: participate in the war (we will be grateful), or don't participate, and we will do our best without you. But please don't complain. Be a team player. Co-Leaders: Please avoid drafting a top-level player whose inability to donate/attack may severely hinder our war effort.
INACTIVE: If your clan war preference is nearly always set to "Opt-Out/Red," then why are you in a clan? You don't have to war all the time, by any means, but you should help out every few of weeks, at a minimum. If not, after a while, you will probably be kicked for being inactive. This doesn't include vacations, etc. that you announce ahead of time or hero upgrades, etc.
While it can vary, we usually try to start wars sometime between 1600 (4:00p) and 2100 (9:00p) Eastern Time (US).
Never use time zone as an excuse not to attack. No matter where you live, the war still lasts 24 hours for everyone and few people sleep for 12 hours straight.
In order to increase the chances of defending against war attacks, we want the highest-level troops possible in our War Bases.
If you are one of the top two players in the war, you are expected to work together to ensure all war bases (war clan castles) are filled with the strongest and most appropriate troops possible. This usually means the top player fills the war bases, the second fills the top player's war base, while the third player serves as backup, as needed.
While it is the job of the top players to ensure all of this happens, and to enlist the help of others as needed, it is ultimately, every member's job to make sure we don't go to war with less than full war bases. So, if there are still empty or partially-empty war bases two hours before the war begins, EVERY member is expected to donate the best troops they can to fill in the gaps.
Now, we are not talking about the war bases, but about war donation requests that appear in clan chat.
We have already covered the expectations for general donations on the Home page. All of these still apply to war attack donations, so please review and follow them. Below are expectations specific to war requests.
When attacking in war, each member is responsible for ensuring they have the highest-level troops and spells possible in their clan castle. So check the "max level" box in your request and put "FOR WAR" in the text box.
Every troop you donate is automagically upgraded two levels when it arrives in the requestor's clan castle, because we are a Level 10+ Clan! So, if a member requests a "Level 9 Loon," and you have Level 7 Balloons, then you should donate! Yours will become Level 9 when they get them! Note: Troops are only upgraded one level in Archenland until it reaches Level 10.
Certain high-level troops are always in demand during wars, like Baby Dragons, Bowlers, Dragons, Electro Dragons, Golems, Valkyries, Wizards and Siege Machines. These are harder to come by at the maximum level, because only higher Town Hall players have them. If your Town Hall level allows you to upgrade your troops to these levels, you are expected to complete those upgrades right away, so that you can help donate to others in the clan, and carry your fair share of the load. If you either don't upgrade your troops within a reasonable time or just don't donate, then you will be demoted or kicked. So, upgrade your troops and help out. Remember, you get half the donation cost back as one of the perks of our being a Level 10+ Clan.
Be specific when requesting war troops. You are expected to have a war attack strategy that includes specific clan castle troops and spells. Use the features in the donation request tool to force certain troops and maximum levels to be donated to avoid any confusion.
When you are requesting troops for a war attack put "FOR WAR" or "FW" somewhere in your request, so we know. These requests get higher priority than regular donations.
When you request troops for war, set your clan castle to "Sleep," so you don't loose those troops if someone attacks your home village. And don't use them in regular attacks. No one wants to donate expensive war troops to you that are wasted defending or in non-war attacks.
This is important, because it's often better to request dark elixir troops for certain war attacks, but dark elixir is extremely valuable, and a donator may be willing to give you expensive dark elixir troops to win a war, but not want to waste them on regular raids or defenses. You'll upset your higher-level clan mates pretty quickly if you don't respect that. Then, you'll be in a situation where they don't donate to you anymore. Not good for you.
READ THIS: Request your first attack war troops long before the start of the war AND request your second attack war troops immediately after your first attack! It takes time for the higher players to fill all the requests and they aren't always on. Don't count on getting your request filled right before you want to attack.
This is the part you've been waiting for: War Strategy.
Pay attention to Clan Mail and Chat for any additional details or changes to the War Strategy that is described below. All members are responsible for reading Clan Mail and checking Chat History when they get on Clash.
Attack the opposing war base that is visually one slot below your war base within the first 12 hours of the war (for example, if you are #8, then you will attack #9). However, if you know you cannot even one-star that base, then you can ask to go two bases down. You may not do this without clear permission from the member whose base you are taking or from the Leader or top Co-Leader in the war, because you'll be taking stars from our lower members. Always leave the lowest base for our lowest two players to attack first.
All players: Wait until after the first 12 hours of the war to use your second attack. (Top players, wait even longer to see how most of the lower players do.) Then, after the first 12 hours of the war, use your second attack to three-star the bases that haven't been three-starred.
THINK! If there are players below you who can clean up lower bases, then don't waste your second attack there. Clean up near your level, where your abilities are most needed. This is about maximizing stars for the whole clan, not getting loot for yourself. If you're not sure, ask a Leader/Co-Leader.
Note for Player #1: The #1 player attacks the #2 base during the first 12 hours. The #1 player should then save their second attack until close to the end of the war to see where they can earn the most stars to help the clan win. This may not be by attacking the #1 base. Since the #1 player can usually three-star most other bases, being strategic about where to deploy the second attack can be the key to winning a war.
Note to Players #2 and #3: Coordinate with Player #1 and each other. See how you can best work together to maximize stars for the clan.
Note to Mid-range and Lower Players: Attack early! If you're in the bottom half of the war roster, then please use your first attack as soon as possible, once the war begins. Finish your second attack as early as possible after the 12-hour mark. All of the upper-level players are waiting to give you a chance to attack, so they know where to use their attacks to get the stars you can't get, just like you're doing for those below you. If the clan has to wait a long time for you to attack, because everyone above you has to see how well you do, then you may not be included in future wars. Remember, you're part of a team.
Note to Last and Second-to-Last Players: Our lowest player will use their first attack on their own number (the lowest player on the opponent's side). Whoever attacks that base first (our lowest player or our second to lowest player) gets it. If it isn't three-starred by our lowest player, then it must be cleaned up by our second to lowest player.
Reserving Bases: If the Leader or the top Co-Leader in the war assigns a particular base to a specific member, then follow those instructions. However, under normal circumstances, calling a base, like, " Base #5 is mine, no one else attack it!" is worthless. Everyone is to attack the slot below theirs with their first attack. So, this could only apply to the second attack. However, the goal of the second attack is to maximize stars by following the general guidelines provided here. If a base hasn't been three-starred and it's in your range, then it's first come, first served. If you want it, attack it. Don't complain when no one respects your calling a number. That's not how wars work in our clan. But always check Clan Mail and Chat to see if the plan has changed and you've been assigned a specific base by a Co-Leader.
Every member is expected to use BOTH attacks in every war, unless given permission to skip an attack by the Clan Leader or a Co-Leader. Winning/Losing a war is only part of the goal. The stars we earn give us more Clan XP, which is why we war. Take a look at the War Details > War Stats to see how this works. Also, it's not fair for some to wait until the end to decide whether to attack, letting others carry the load. All are expected to attack in order to make it fair. Your attacks DO matter, regardless of whether we win or lose.
Leave in the middle of a war without using both attacks and you will be banned from the clan. This is covered under "Hopping" on the Home page.
Teamwork Wins Wars: Wars aren't about you. They are about the clan. And the goal is simple: GET AS MANY STARS AS POSSIBLE AS A CLAN. That's it. To do that, we have to work together. So, don't just think about how you can get the most loot or stars. Think about how you can help everyone maximize the number of stars they earn.
ALWAYS follow this checklist before you attack. Your war attacks impact the entire clan, and you need these items. Repeatedly not following the checklist can result in being kicked from the clan.
Study Base and Plan Your Attack: Look over the strengths and weaknesses of the base you're planning to attack before you cook troops. Cook the troops and spells you need to execute the best attack strategy possible. Ask for advice, if needed.
Check the Corners: Take note of any buildings hidden in the corners (like builder huts) and plan for how you will destroy them.
Lure Opponent's Clan Castle Troops: This is a critical part of most war attacks. Consider this in your planning and ensure you have the necessary troops. If you don't know what this is, ask in clan chat.
Army Camps: Make sure your army camps are completely full of your best troops for war, not for raiding. War attacks are about maximizing stars not loot, so the strategies and troops are different.
Spells: Make sure all your spells are finished cooking, and that they are the right spells (Spell Factory and Dark Spell Factory)
Barbarian King/Archer Queen/Grand Warden/Royal Champion:
If you have a Barb King (BK), Archer Queen (AQ), Grand Warden (GW), or Royal Champion (RC), make sure they are completely restored and available for your attack. If they are being upgraded, do not Opt-In to the war!
Clan Castle: Make sure your clan castle is full of the best war troops possible that work with your attack strategy. Also, make sure you have a spell in your clan castle, if your castle supports it. Never go to battle without a FULL castle!
And don't request "any" for war attacks. You'd better have a strategy, and that means you need specific troops. Saying "any" or not being specific in your request tells us you're not following the Clan Guide and are not taking your war attacks seriously.
Psst! Hey, you. Yeah, you. Come here for a second. Listen, we're all just learning here. No one has all the answers, and we don't expect you to either. But we do expect everyone to have a learning posture. That means you're willing to accept advice from others, and share your own. We don't really have a "three-star war academy." What we do have is a clan with experience. Here's how to benefit from that experience.
Ask for advice from experienced players who are at or above your town hall level when planning your war attacks.
Think through your own strategy first. Then, consider theirs. Ask questions. Then, do what you think is best. The attack is yours, no one else's. So, own it, do your best, and learn from it.
If someone offers you advice before or after your attack (even if you three-star), thank them, and consider their input. You may learn something! Don't be offended.
Be willing to try something new that you learn from a fellow Narnian or from your own research online. As long as you follow the Clan Guide and the War Checklist, it's fine. We expect everyone to make mistakes as they learn.
Each new town hall level is a new experience. Old strategies may no longer work (that goes for both attacks and base layouts). So, study up and learn from others in the clan.
Share what you learn with others in a kind and respectful way. When one Narnian learns and grows, we all benefit.
