Open source software for building private and public clouds

The OpenStack Foundation was founded by Rackspace Hosting and NASA and is supported by this list of companies.

At the 12th International Cloud Expo in New York in June 2013, there was a lot of talk about OpenStack by IBM, Rackspace, Suse and Verizon Terremark.  It clearly is on the Cloud Roadmap for these companies and probably should be on yours and mine, which is why this section is now under construction.  It will be a work in progress where I will add information as I research it.

OpenStack is a global collaboration community of almost 10,000 people involved in producing the open source cloud computing platform for public and private clouds. The goal is to provide solutions for all types of clouds that are simple to implement, scalable, and feature rich. There are number of interrelated projects delivering various components for a cloud infrastructure solution as can be seen in this picture from a slide presentation by Hart Hoover of Rackspace at the Cloud Expo on "Isolated Networks in the Cloud.

In June of 2013, OpenStack released their latest open source tool, Stackalytics.com -- OpenStack Analytics: Stackalytics is a visualization tool that collects data from GitHub and presents the companies, projects, and contributors.  It also lets you track commits and overall lines of code.

The OpenStack Summit was held in April 2013 in Portland Oregon for developers, users, and administrators of OpenStack Cloud Software.  Here is a link to view session videos.

Here is the model that is talked about for OpenStack -- Compute, Network and Storage

Here is what needs to be considered for deployment:
