Your prayer should be constantly keeping your heart and mind in tune with why you’re fasting. The prayer side is designed to keep you in touch with why you’re fasting lest you’re just abstaining from food to reach a goal. Does that make sense? And if you feel like you can’t make it and you’re just falling apart, “God could you help me and just remove this? And it’s obvious,” watch, “it’s obvious I have a serious cry of the flesh. It’s obvious that this thing is trying to outweigh my cry for you. And nothing will outshout my heart to know you.” See that’s powerful prayer right there. “And God my heart’s before you and I’m not just trying to abstain from food, because the finished work of Jesus is enough but I must know you more and with this kind of indulgence, with this kind of carnal cry, how will I ever live fueled by the Spirit? God, I want to live by the Spirit.”1
