This concept was about an experience based around listening to music. The guest would hear a song, in this case Devo’s Whip It, and then the song would break into pieces at which point the guest would have to reconstruct the song complete the experience.
We used a number of interactive techniques with this experience. The main interactions were finding sounds and then playing with them. We realized that it was pretty hard for people to locate sounds, so we added a sonar feature which would make a beeping noise that would increase in intensity as the guest got closer to a sound. This allowed the guest to move their hands around and listen for feedback indicating that they were near a sound that they needed to collect. Another interaction which we included that ended up being surprisingly intuitive was that once the guest found a sound they could play with it. For instance, when the guest found the guitar sound, if they played “air guitar” guitar noises would be produced. Most guests did made these kinds of motions without any prompting. The most popular action was to use the whip to make a whip cracking sound along with the song.
This experience was meant to be a tutorial for our technology and it worked pretty well in this regard. It was also designed to be very simple and fun to boost the guest’s confidence while showing the guest some of the fun stuff that could be done with our technology.
