Why D6 Tuning?

When I first got some ukuleles for my music class I was not sure what tuning to use. The books I had were in D6 but most online things are in C, so I decide to do some research.

Here is why I decide to use D6 tuning for the following reasons:

1) D6 tuning works well with beginner recorder (another instrument in my music class). You don't have to worry about the low C on the recorder.

2) I also have some beginner guitar students and the beginning chords for guitar (D, A , G) work well with the D6 tuning.

Here are some of the discussions about D6 tuning I have found:

Here is a video that discusses the difference. The first part deals with intonation and the discussion about D6 tuning starts around 3:09.
