Grave Marker Dedication Service
Dedication Service at Fairview Cemetery on October 17, 2015
The Cedar Valley Civil War Roundtable held a ceremony at 10 a.m. Oct. 17 at Fairview Cemetery to dedicate two grave markers recently erected at the graves of a veteran of the War of 1812, William Virden, one of Waterloo's pioneer residents and Levi Jolls, a veteran of the Civil War.
Levi Leroy Jolls
Levi Jolls, a native of New York state, served in Company C of the 34th Iowa Infantry Regiment, also known as Waterloo's Own Home Company. It served in the Red River campaign in northern Louisiana, including the Battle of Pleasant Hill where the Regiment engaged a unit of Confederate Cavalry from Texas in battle and suffered heavy losses.
Here are some photos from the dedication ceremony.
