About Google Groups
Background
Google Groups provide the means e-mail based communication within the pack. To be part of this communication you need to join two groups, one for the pack and one for your den, as described below. After a quick approval from the pack leadership, you will be part of the groups. One nice thing about the Google Groups is that each individual manages their own memberships and the mechanism of their communication (individual e-mails, digests, web only, RSS feed, etc.).
Group membership also provides a limited way to find contact information for other parents since you can browse through the member lists to get the e-mail addresses for other parents. It sometimes is a little tough to discern who someone is from their e-mail address so adding your name to your member profile is helpful. Google does a good job of keeping your contact information away from bulk spammers.
Subscribe/Join
To subscribe to receive e-mails or to join discussions via the web you must join the Google Groups for your pack and den. To do this you must first have a Google account (go here to create one if you have not already). Once you have a Google account go to the appropriate addresses below:
Den 1 - Gorilla Den (Webelos 2)
The Google Groups contain private information and so approval for access is required. It is possible that your den leader will have already added you to the group or invited you to join the group. Otherwise, the first time you visit a group you will have to provide your name, email address, and a brief message to the leaders including your son's name and den. Providing this information properly will speed the approval process. Please send the information to your den leader or e-mail it to pack95admin@gmail.com.
Change E-Mail Preferences
If you want to change your E-Mail preferences:
Go to the group (see Subscribe/Join above).
Click on "Edit my membership".
Select your desired E-Mail option and click "Save these settings."
Unsubscribe
If you no longer want to be a member of the group (hopefully only because your scout has just graduated to Boy Scouts) follow these instructions.
Go to the group (see Subscribe/Join above).
Click on "Edit my membership".
Click the "Unsubscribe" button.
Send Messages
To send messages out to the members of a Google Group you have two options (both of which require that you first be a member of the group):
Post directly to the webform on the Google Group site. This can be done from any web browser by logging on to the Google Group and adding a new post under the "Discussions" tab. This will also send an e-mail out to all members who have signed up to receive them.
Send an e-mail to the appropriate address below from your favorite e-mail program (you can do this by clicking a link below). This will automatically send the message to all members of the Google Group who have signed up to receive them. The message will also be added to the group's message repository.
