Annual Turkey Chase Service Project
On Thanksgiving Day, Pack 1461 will again provide Cub Scout and family member volunteers to pass out water and cheer the runners at this year's Turkey Chase. The race is the primary fundraiser for our Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary and the YMCA. Not only are these two great organizations, the Rotary also sponsors are Pack. It's FUN to volunteer, so please bring the whole family and make sure the Cubs wear their uniforms!
A Great Event for a Great Cause
Turkey Chase has been taking place since 1982 in Bethesda, Maryland with participants coming from all over the United States with the highest concentration of runners from Bethesda and surrounding communities. Turkey Chase is the largest 10K in Montgomery County and the largest fundraiser for the YMCA and the BCC Rotary, raising over $1.5 million dollars since 1992. All of the net proceeds benefit youth and families in Montgomery County through YMCA programs and local Rotary charities. This event will draw over 10,000 individuals and families for a morning of healthy competition and a host of other engaging activities for children that promote community and personal wellness.
Details and Sign Ups
You may register for either Water Stop 2 (at Pooks Hill) or Water Stop 5 (at Beth El on Old Georgetown Road). Kids and parents can go directly to their site on race day. Volunteers help with setting up, handing water cups to runners, cleaning up post-race and adding lots of enthusiasm and fun to the event. Meet us at 7:15 a.m. at your water station (Pooks Hill or Old Georgetown Rd & Huntington Pkwy) and plan to stay until 10:00 a.m.
Please go to www.turkeychase.com to sign up adults and scouts who will attend. The YMCA will try to accommodate everyone who would like to help but the sooner you register the more likely you will be able to pick your water stop.
Click on participate then volunteer. Scroll down and click Race Day Opportunities, click on CHOOSE, then pick your water stop. Please write "Cub Scout Pack 1461" under the “special requests or considerations” section so the YMCA knows you are part of Pack 1461 (We also need to have this recorded to make sure you receive your volunteer T-Shirt).
Please review the Terms and Conditions (see below) provided by the YMCA and mark that you have reviewed them on the sign up link. Remember to reserve your volunteer T-Shirt when you register! We will distribute the T-Shirts at the race.
Make sure your Cub Scouts wear their uniforms and dress warmly!
