Cub Day Camp - Down On The Farm!

Pack 1461 is getting ready for Summer Day Camp!!!

Join your fellow scouts at NCAC / Potomac District’s Day Camp June 22 - 26 (9:00 am to 4:30 pm) at Lois Green - Sligo Izaak Walton League in Gaithersburg.

Calling all Adventurers!!!

This year’s theme is “Down on the Farm!” It’s a fantastic week for the Scouts with a wide range of activities including archery, BBs, crafts, fishing, games, nature, Scout skills, sports and STEM. All the information is on the Council's website.

Who can attend?

Registered Cub Scouts, boys and girls, between the ages of 6 and 10 (grades 1 - 5 as of Fall 2020). Each rising Tiger Cub will need to have a Tiger Cub partner attend camp with him or her every day.

Camp supplies and Cub Scout supervision

Each scout receives a camp T-shirt and all the goodies needed for a week of fun. Cubs must bring a bag lunch each day, no refrigeration is available and parents should send freezer packs if necessary. One adult (Den Walker) is needed from our Pack for every 5 Scouts to escort the adventurers through camp. All Den Walkers must complete Youth Protection Training (YPT) and provide proof of completion.

Camp hours

Camp will run from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm for the entire week (Monday, June 22 - Friday, June 26). (check back for hours as they are subject to change)

Registration, volunteer commitment and fees

Cubs register for camp through Pack 1461. See below for step-by-step registration details. As a part of the registration, one adult partner for each scout must volunteer to be the Den Walker for one day of camp. The Pack is also seeking adult volunteers for serving as Lead Den Walkers on all five days of camp. The Pack will pay the camp registration fee for the Lead Den Walker's Scout! This is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fees vary based on the date of registration:

· By April 30: $190 per Scout (recently extended from April 19th)

· By May 17: $210 per Scout

· After May 17: $230 per Scout

NB: Camp registration will be refunded in full if the camp session is cancelled by the Council.

New Cub Scouts (any rank) will receive the “Early Bird” discount of $190 but must submit paper registration to Pack 1461. Make sure you use the Promo Codes on the Square Store to get your discount!!!!

Forms and camp location

See the column on the right of this page for all required camp forms and directions to the camp. Each youth, den walker, and staff member is expected to have an appropriate

medical form on file at the camp. Only parts A and B are needed for Day Camp. No visit to a doctor is needed with these forms. These medical forms are to be turned in to Kim Desmond by June 1. PLEASE ATTACH A COPY (FRONT AND BACK) OF YOUR MEDICAL INSURANCE CARD TO THE HEALTH FORM. This includes youth, adult den walkers, program volunteers, youth staff, and adult staff.

Steps for registration

1) Fill out Day Camp Registration Form and give it to Kim Desmond at one of our upcoming Pack Meetings (April, May or June). Include a note about specific days you are able to volunteer as a Den Walker. We cannot register Scouts without a commitment from an adult partner to be a Den Walker. If you cannot bring the forms to a Pack Meeting, please contact Kim Desmond to arrange a drop off. We can only accept paper copies -- no emails please!

2) Submit registration payment through Pack 1461’s market portal.

3) Submit additional camp forms to Kim Desmond, including proof of Youth Protection Training for Den Walkers, by June 1

a. Shooting Sport Release Authorization Form

b. Scout and Den Walker Medical Forms, including a copy of insurance card for each scout and den walker

Additional information

Financial assistance is available in some cases from the camp. Adult volunteers are wanted (in addition to the required Den Walkers) to be full-time trained staff members. Full-time volunteers receive free registration for one Cub Scout. Contact Cubmaster Eric for more information.
