Tony Cowling

- Lecturer in computer science at Sheffield University since 1973.

- Self-identified as a software engineer during the 1980s.

- Responsible for developing the undergraduate SE degree at Sheffield, which started in 1987, and was one of the first ug programmes in SE in the UK.

- An active participant in CSEE&T since 1998.

- Received a Sheffield University Senate Award for Sustained Excellence in Teaching and Learning in 2010.

- Awarded a National Teaching Fellowship by the UK Higher Education Academy in 2012. (This is the highest distinction in teaching and learning that can be awarded in the UK to an academic.)

- Partially retired in 2014, finally retired from teaching in 2018.

- Still an independent consultant, eg for quality assurance reviews.
