1914 Gibson A-3 Mandolin

This is a very original mandolin. The original tuners, pickguard, bridge and tailpiece cover are all present and work well.

The thin finish is in very good shape overall, with some playing wear on the back of the neck.

All of the Ivoroid bindings are intact and there is no sign of any repairs.

It has a good sound and is easy to play.

The pumpkin-coloured Adirondack Spruce top has a small wear spot in the finish toward the tailpiece.

The silver-plated tailpiece cover is worn to a soft patina.

The soundhole rosette is has two ovals of rope binding.

The pearl inlay is complete and solid.

The tuners show almost no wear.

The Honduras Mahogany neck has an Ebony centre strip.

The ivoroid tuner buttons are very beautiful and in excellent condition.

There is some playing wear on the frets and the back of the neck.

Ivoroid fingerboard binding with tortoiseshell dots.

The original bridge with intonated ebony saddle insert.

The stamp on the bridge reads "PAT.APR. 21/09"

The pick guard clamp was patented July 4th, 1911

The pick guard is stamped "PAT.MAR.30.09"

Birch back with reddish mahogany stain.
