History
2009: The Beginning
Debbie Abernathy, Master Gardener and member of Chestnut Ridge Christian Church envisioned creating a Feed the Hungry Garden. Bob Jones, pictured below along side Debbie, was instrumental in the garden planning and construction of raised beds.
2010: Spring
The community was invited to participate, thus the beginning of a community garden.
2011: It's Official
We officially became the CrossRoads Community Garden, adding additional beds and providing lease opportunities for 21 local gardeners.
2012: We Continue to Grow!
We added communal plots where a variety of fruits and vegetables are grown.
2013: Spring
Setting up for the Master Gardeners' Plant Sale and more.
2014: A Productive Year
From a grape orchard to production of our own compost!
2015: All Hands Garden Workday
30 gardeners along with many family members came out to prepare and plant their Spring gardens.
2015: Summer into the Fall
Gardeners donated over 450 lbs. of fresh produce for food pantries in Cobb County.
Garden Sinkhole Repaired
In Fall 2015, two sinkholes were discovered in the southwest corner of the garden and parking lot area. Below are some photos of the excavation and repair process. Read more about the sinkholes in an article written by Lynn Kannepin.
2016
This Spring we had the honor of being on the Master Gardeners' Tour. During the summer, over 700 lbs. of vegetables were donated by our gardeners to Cobb food pantries.
