The Country Kickers Baton Corps was started in February 2011 by Kay Michalski, Shelen Stevens, Stephanie Helberg, Angel Henry, and Crystal Henry. Originally based in Weston, Ohio for 2011-2013, the Kickers are now based in Bowling Green, Ohio. Between the founders, there are over 25 years of twirling experience. For the 2015 season, the coaches were former Cadet Twirler, Jessica (Thomas) LaMee and Elizabeth (Henry) Siferd. This season was a skills only season with a parade performance to cap off the end of the year. The twirling tradition being passed down the generations began with Debra (Fitton) Miller in Bowling Green, Ohio with the Cadet Twirlers Baton Corps. Deb passed the torch to Stephanie and Angel who then passed the torch to Crystal and Elizabeth. Due to dwindling participation in recent seasons, there will no longer be formal corps lessons. You may contact any coach, including former coach Crystal Henry, to schedule private lessons. As our skills build and schedules change we hope to also gather more interest and once again be a marching corps.
Baton twirling teaches patience, perseverance, dedication, team spirit, and eye-hand coordination through bi-weekly practices on basic skills necessary to perform a choreographed routine at parades throughout northwest Ohio during the year. A yearly Sign-up is held in early January and practices being by the end of January. Practices are separated into two age groups, minis and junior corps. The junior corp is then divided based on skills into middle corps (higher skill level) and junior corps (novice skill level). All children age 3 years and beyond are welcome (including boys and adults!) Costs are minimal. Since the corps will not be publicly performing there is no costs of a uniform and corps jacket.
