Hi Karl,
I put a very clean copy of an audio file that is approximate one minute and forty seconds long into OneNote. I've left OneNote open and idle during the day and overnight and still can't seem to get the audio search feature to work. I am currently running Windows 7. Is this something that would work better in a later version of Windows. The ability to search audio and video is huge in the field I work in as a paralegal and it would be great if OneNote could actually do this, but how reliable is it?
Any additional information you can provide is greatly appreciated.

If you have other processes running in the background then Onenote might "think" you are using the computer - do you have a screen saver running or if you do task manager and look at the apps and processes running see if there is something running in the background like defrag etc.
-It has now been a while since you created your audio recording (about 16 days). Has the search feature started working for that recording yet, or are you still unable to find any of the words in that recording?
-Since creating that audio recording, how much have you used OneNote while your Surface was plugged in to the wall? To conserve battery life, the audio indexing feature may not run when you're using your computer on battery power. Thus, if you've spent little or no time using OneNote while your Surface was plugged in, that could be the reason the indexing didn't happen.
-Can you try creating a short audio recording (even just 15 or 20 seconds) consisting of a few clearly spoken words, while your Surface is plugged in, and then letting OneNote run for 10 minutes or so? After that, try searching for the words you spoke on that recording and let me know what the results are.
You can enable the Audio Search feature in File > Options > Audio and Video.
With the Audio Search feature enabled, you can search your audio and video recordings for words, just like you would search for typed text in your notes. For example:
Record phone conversations with customers, and later search for keyword of topics that you discussed
Record an interview and then search for specific quotes
Record voice reminders on a Windows Mobile Smartphone or Pocket PC. After you synchronize them with OneNote, you can search through your reminders.
The audio recognition process and indexing happens only when the computer is left idle and OneNote is running. It will take at least twice the length of a recording, so you'll have to let OneNote index for some time before you can begin searching.
When Audio Search is enabled, use the regular search box (above the page tabs) to type your search term and then click View List to see the audio results at the bottom of the results pane.
