The National Writing Project’s College, Career, & Community Writers Program (C3WP) focuses on teaching and learning of source-based argument writing that draws on non-fiction texts. As part of the program, local Writing Project sites provide teachers with intensive professional development and specially developed resources they help their students become skilled at writing arguments from non-fiction sources. The purpose of sharing resources is to support teachers and students in developing source-based arguments and to study the underlying teaching practices. [Something about the fact that the resources need to be accompanied by PD in order for the materials to be understood as something to inquire into, but word this better]

The C3WP resources and tools have been developed collaboratively by experienced teachers of writing who are leaders in the National Writing Project network. The initial C3WP National Leadership Team, which led the creation of a number of C3WP instructional resources, includes: Linda Denstaedt, Oakland (MI) Writing Project; Casey Olsen, Elk River Writing Project (MT); Beth Rimer, Ohio Writing Project; Robert Rivera-Amezola, Philadelphia Writing Project; Kelly Sassi, Red River Writing Project; Jameka Thomas, Red Mountain Writing Project, and Jean Wolph, Louisville Writing Project, as well as NWP staff. These initial resources were extended, adapted, and further developed by teacher leaders across the network, educators in participating schools, and their students.

Funding for the National Writing Project’s College, Career, & Community Writers Program is provided by the U.S. Department of Education’s Investing in Innovation (i3) Grant Competition Program and SEED programs, with additional funding from The Rural School and Community Trust and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
