Colony Homecoming—2024

The Colony Cemetery Association held its Homecoming and annual meeting on Sunday, May 5, 2024.  Twenty -seven participants gathered, with the Beale-Pavlica family also having its reunion meeting at the event.

Before the bountiful pot-luck lunch, Jerome Svatek led the group in grace, recognizing the blessings that we have.  On this stormy day, he reminded us that following all the storms of life, the sunshine will return.  After lunch J.J. Beck conducted the meeting.  Minutes were read by Amy Beck, and a treasurer’s report was given by Etta Brown.

A request was made for donations for upkeep of the cemetery and continued payments on the completed repairs of the church building.  Two burials in the Colony Cemetery were reported from the past year, Harold Glenn LaField in December, 2023, and Ruth Verdene Brown Black in January, 2024.

Everyone present introduced themselves, and information about some of those missing was shared.  Cherie Pavlica won the jar of pretzels for having the closest guess to the correct number in the jar. Amy Beck then led the members of the Beale-Pavlica families in a Family Reunion Trivia with questions about the family founders, Vince and Anna Franka Pavlica, who emigrated from Czechoslovakia, and Harry Fisher and Sarah Ann Bromley Beale, who came to Texas from England.

The death of one member of the Beale family was reported.  Shirley Ann Barta Rittimann passed away on March 18, 2022.

Recognitions for some of the family members who were present included the following: oldest—Frank Huff, youngest—William Bruns, married the longest—Jerry and Minnie Parker, moved during last year—William Bruns, retired during last year—Shawna Bruns, had great grandchildren during last year—Sandra and Doug Mica (Fallyn Mica and Noah Mica) and Frank Huff (Noah Horvath).

The joint Reunion/Homecoming will be held again next year on the first Sunday in May.
