Collaborations with Tom Oberg

In June of 2004 Jan Kather and Tom Oberg began collaborating on a photo/sculpture/video project loosely titled Memento Mori Mutely Murmurs... that incorporates sound, the moving image, “Crackerjack Prize” lenticular prints, and light boxes with photo transparencies as part of the installation. In October 2005 they collaborated to create Aleatoric Theatre, an on-site audience participatory video/audio happening with free coffee and cookies as part of the Elmira Art Studio weekend. Most recently they created an installation titled The Ruins for the Collaborative Works exhibition at Elmira College's George Waters Gallery. Collaborating on projects provides them with a forum for continual dialogue and redefinition of elusive ideas concerning the significance of art making, both past and present. Sometimes they seek anonymity, using the pseudonyms "Patrick Thomas" or "Jan Thomas."
