Aleatoric Video

Video Collaboration with People Living in the Southern Finger Lakes

In the fall of 2006 I wrote and received an Artist Crossroads Grant to be completed during the following year. In February 2007 I invited the public to express their feelings about living in the Southern Finger Lakes of New York State by sending me digital audio, video, and photo files to be remixed as a media installation called Aleatoric Video. This Artist Crossroads project consisted of nine videos simultaneously playing on multiple screens as pictured at left. The participants agreed that their digital files would be remixed using both traditional and non-traditional video effects. I promised to include one scrolling video of untouched digital files exactly as submitted by the artist. Artists retained all rights to their work. Pictured here is an installation photo of the nine videos playing on portable dvd screens at the Waverly Public Library.
