Volunteer at a Dojo

There are many ways in which you can volunteer with your local CoderDojo, whether you are technical or not, to find out more please see below.

If you wish to volunteer with your local Dojo please contact them directly. Find your nearest Dojo.

All CoderDojos are run by “mentors”, volunteers who give their time freely to organise and run the sessions. We can easily increase numbers if we have more people helping out.

Remember, CoderDojo isn’t a training course with a set syllabus. We’re open to all sorts of things, from web programming to games to robotics. The more people helping out, the greater the range of experience and skills we can share.

If you’re interested, contact us, this is what you need to do.

Mentor at your local Dojo

“To get involved as a mentor all you need to be is energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about helping kids learn!” Kat, CoderDojo Western Australia Champion

Dojo’s are always looking for technically skilled mentors to help out, for a couple of hours a week, helping share their knowledge with local young people.

Whether you are a pro at Python, can write HTML blindfolded or love tinkering with hardware like Raspberry Pis and robotics your knowledge and experience would be welcome at any Dojo! To mentor with CoderDojo please search for your nearest Dojo and contact them directly. Volunteering at a Dojo can be a rewarding experience, and might not require as much as you think. It gives you an opportunity to help kids learn how to code, and an opportunity to learn new skills and technologies.

Have a read of this article, it might give a better understanding of why.

Can I volunteer if I’m not technical?

Yes! Dojos are always looking for volunteers to help with a wide array of tasks, from registration and administration through to keeping their website up to date. You should get in touch with your local Dojo if you have skills that you think could help.

Some examples of roles for volunteers:

  • Registration & check In

  • Producing fliers

  • Updating the website

Volunteering for businesses

Volunteering isn’t just for individuals and we welcome volunteering, in both time and resources, from within businesses and organisations who have the resources to fast track starting a Dojo in their area. We encourage businesses to get involved with their local Dojos to provide venues, food, laptops, and badges. Please contact us to get involved
