OBITUARY

Donald Wilkes, 86, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away December 20, 2018. He was born April 11, 1932, in Emanuel County, Georgia, but grew up in Toombs County, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Turner Wilkes; daughter, Julie Wilkes Marsh, and sons, Donald Lee and Joseph Craig Wilkes; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War during 1951-1952 in the 64th Tank Battalion 3rd Infantry Division. After the military, he started his career at Independent Life Insurance Company. In 1963, he moved to Marietta, Georgia, as District Sales Manager and retired after 41 years of service. During that time, he was President of the Cobb County Life Underwriter’s Association, served as Vice President of the Georgia Association, having taught several life insurance sales courses. He was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church since 1979, serving as deacon, elder, and Clerk of Session for over twenty years. He was a Mason of 53 years at Kennesaw Lodge No. 33 and served as Worshipful Master and Ambassador to the Widow’s Club. He was Past Master for James Sledge Daylight Lodge No. 742 and the Cobb County Masonic Convention.

Burial will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with military honors on December 26, 2018, at 1:30 p.m.

There will be a memorial service at Smyrna Presbyterian Church, 3130 Atlanta Road, Smyrna, Georgia 30080, on Saturday, January 12, 2019. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The service will be at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Smyrna, Georgia, or the Yaarab Shriners Hospital for Children.

OBITUARY

James Edwin Wood, age 87 of Marietta, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Friday, April 13, 2018 at Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Wood was born in Atlanta and was a master machinist retired from Auto Soler after 40 plus years as foreman over the wire and nail departments. He served in the US Navy and then in the US Army as an aircraft mechanic. Mr. Wood was a Shriner and enjoyed working with the Shrine Circus-fundraising for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. He also loved boating and fishing.

Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Frances Wood. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Walter L. Bates and Anne Weiss Bates; daughter and son-in-law Lisa Bates Redd and Terry Redd; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Betty Ann Wood and Ruth Wood.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 12 from 5 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital at stjude.org.

OBITUARY

Frank Dennis Duncan of Marietta, GA passed away on March 9, 2018, at 80 yeaHe was a graduate of Bass High School in Atlanta, GA and Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George L. Duncan, Jr. and his sister Carolyn Duncan Schilling. He is survived by his sister Claire Richardson of Norfolk, VA.

Additionally, he is survived by Carolyn Rhea Lewis his loving wife of 55 years. They were married in Atlanta, GA on April 14, 1962. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His children, George Duncan, Rhea Duncan Brashear and Ben Duncan along with their spouses and six grandchildren are his living legacy and testimony of his love for his family.

Throughout his life, Frank was extensively involved in the community and with his church. Over the course of 40 years, he owned two companies, Peachtree Printing in Atlanta. GA and Creative Bindery and Printing in Smyrna, GA. He was a member of the Brookwood Rotary Club and Meyerhardt Lodge No.314.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on March 25, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church located at 2881 Canton Rd., Marietta, GA. A reception will immediately follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
