Practice Restorative Exercise. Medical gymnastics or mobility training slowly gets the rusty hinges in the body working well again. We floss the teeth daily. Floss the joints daily as well. The goal is to achieve full range of motion in all the joints and maintain it.
Train for Life. Train with purpose but train in a way that’s fun and repeatable. Don’t exercise for the sake of exercise. Seek to master the basic human movement skills first. Then layer more complex skill on a base of quality movement. Learn to be calm, breathe and move well. To train is not to strain. The goal is to slowly expand our comfort zone. We want our workouts to be challenging but not difficult.
Get Down & Get Back Up. Rolling around on the ground resets the body. Routinely practice the baby moves, developing your Original Strength (rolling, on all fours, squatting and kneeling.) When it comes to these patterns, the mantra is “use it and keep it.” Be on the floor more: sit, play take naps, type, play video games, etc.
Move with Grace. Moving in alignment, with balance, rhythm, and body control is highly nutritious movement. The more efficient we move, the better we perform and are less likely to get injured. Don’t do battle with gravity, align with it. Any time we remember is a good time to practice alignment, since we need no equipment, and frequency is progress. Even waiting in line can be a fruitful experience. Walking from the parking lot to the building can be fruitful if done mindfully. The ground is always waiting.
Move Often. Never stay in the same position longer than twenty minutes
Go Outside More.
Walk More
Hang and Climb More.
Go Barefoot More. For foot health, use marbles to develop the muscles and coordination of foot. Start with basic ground drills like picking up marbles and putting them in a bucket. Progress to throwing marbles at a target. Finally practice throwing marbles on balance beam.
Practice Eye Exercises. Practice looking at objects near, medium and far away. The muscles in the eyes need variety to stay healthy. And stare at screens less.
