Zen Body Being by Peter Ralston
Chapter 1. Being a Body
What is physical ability? Responding correctly from an intelligent and sensitive feeling awareness. Every bit of sensory information passes through mental and emotional filters. The fewer the filters, the more clear the message. Feeling awareness, the ‘zone’ - In the moment. Not thinking. Not dreaming. Relaxed and ready. In any situation in life, we can respond to what is occurring or we can respond to our feelings and emotions about what is occurring.
Three basic ingredients to movement ability. Primarily occurs in the realm of feeling, the subconscious mind. Perception, Neural Response and Body Mechanics. When all three function well, power speed, grace and precision arise. The body’s most natural state is one of wholeness and balance, being intrinsically centered, alive and aware. Anything else is a deviation from our connection to the creative spirit.
Seek balance and structural integrity. Utilize imagery to retrain the nervous system.
An open and grounded mental state speeds learning.
Adopting a state of calm helps one deal with emotional obstacles.
Retrain the mind to access the innate ability of the body.
Beginner’s Body Being. Factor in the role of both the body and consciousness. With increased awareness, we gain the power to recognize our habits and make adjustments (better choices.) Keep a beginner’s mind. Approach life with an open unbiased awareness: At any time, we can adopt a more effective body being by consciously making a shift to a more functional state. To learn our body look into our own experience. Every ‘body’ is on their own journey of discovery.
