Chapter 5 - Is this a health or fitness goal? The issues are separate but often impact each other down the line. Do not sacrifice health for fitness. In every decision, know the compromises we are making and why. We should also keep an eye on longevity. Confusing health and fitness goals leads to ludicrous decisions: Health is the optimal interplay of the organs and can always get a little better. Health is mostly something we take for granted until we don’t have it. Health is measured by blood tests, longevity and lack of bad health. For health:
floss your teeth
wear seatbelts and helmets
drink water
take fish oil
eat colorful vegetables
find a life partner who wants to be physically active
sleep - optimize rest and recovery
discover a spiritual life
Fitness is the ability to do a task. To be fit: lift appropriately and play your sport. Remember that smooth goes far and that fit goes far.
