Intervention approach to diet and nutrition
There is a gap between what we know we should eat and what we actually eat. As a coach hand out gems sparingly: when the student is ready. “When the student is ready, the master appears.”
Warriors. Warriors live in the pure present. Eating like a warrior: here’s food, eat it. Living in the pure present works in the short term: For fat loss and short term goals, the way of the warrior may be best and it can be done for short periods throughout our lives: bus bench eating (being on time with everything and counting every calories)
Kings. Kings look both backward and forward to assess what to do next. The challenge is to look at food and eating as a King would. Most of the time eat like an adult:
Have a long term focus. Meal in, meal out: Fresh water, vegetables and lean protein are probably the best choices for the bulk of our meals.
Stop eating fast food and kid’s cereal.
Knock it off with all the sweets and comfort foods.
Eat more vegetables and fruit.
Stop celebrating every time you accomplish something. Save for weddings (too many beers) and funerals (too many pastries.) Just move on. At a certain a point, binging and purging and overindulging catches up to us and destroys the goal of lifetime lean body mass. The demons we have in our past are changing the way we look and feel today.
Simplify your life - Elaine St. James - 2 principles: (1) Eliminate junk food and always split a restaurant meal when going out (2) Water instead of any calorie laden beverage.
To eat like a king, shop like a king and prepare meals like a king. Take two days out of the week, one to shop and one to prepare meals for the rest of the week.
