(Notes from interview with Dr. Ed Thomas)
Thomas Cureton - founder of physical education. World War II Socially Facilitated Exercise. Under certain circumstances learning can occur very quickly in a large group setting. Train students to be instructors--students in essence, learn from each other. Through the use of progressions and precision, the instructor teaches students to teach the skill. “By teaching, I learn.”
Health qualities. The body is one piece and they all matter. Everything we ingest, do, think and feel throughout the day factors into the equation.
Live with Purpose. We should be able to justify everything we include in our diet, routines and movement program.
Look to gain integrity. Training should put things back in place. Mobility is proper alignment, which allows for full range of motion. Integrity plus mobility slowly builds efficiency.
Efficiency is achieved through progression and mastery of movement before load. Work to get to the next level. The next level kicks our butt but doesn’t hurt. Don’t skip levels. This leads to injury and discouragement. Master bodyweight first at an appropriate level before progressing. Master the basics. Don’t take the short cut: 20-30 perfect push ups & 10 good strict pullups prior to introducing a barbell. Med ball throws before Olympic lifts. Explore the rings.

Measurement is key. Did it work? Is it working? Fitness is measured in three ways:
Physique .
Is there alignment and symmetry? Is there a balance from front to back, side to side and top to bottom?
Organic Function
Is the body free from disease?
Motion
Do we sit stand, and move with good postures?
Do we have dynamic balance?
