The Parish Church of St Nicholas, Kenilworth, first appears on record in 1291. In addition to the Parish Church, there was also a Priory Church situated close by. The Priory Church was built c.1119 at the same as the rest of the Priory. The Priory, which was elevated to abbey status in 1447, was to flourish for the next 400 years. Fortunately, the Parish Church of St Nicholas survived the wanton destruction of the Dissolution of Monasteries in 1536-38.
