COURSE DESCIPTIONS

The Cavalier Regiment is the flagship ensemble for Cleveland's Instrumental Music Department. This award-winning group performs at all home football games and competes in local field tournaments in the fall. The group has earned the following honors:

2019, 2021 SCSBOA Gold Medalists - 1A

2022 SCSBOA Bronze Medalists - 2A

2023 SCSBOA Silver Medalists - 3A

2024 SCSBOA Gold Medalists - 3A

2025 SCSBOA Gold Medalists - 4A

Students must audition and enroll in concert band to join.

Color Guard is a lyrical dance unit that uses flags, rifles, sabers, and other props as tools to enhance their performance.  Evolving from the military tradition, they help to bring emotion, feeling, and meaning to the marching band show each fall. 

In the spring semester, this group performs and competes independently of the band in an activity commonly referred to as Winter Guard.

The concert band is the indoor performing ensemble for advanced woodwind, brass, and percussion players. This advanced group rehearses and performs a variety of traditional and contemporary band literature. The concert band performs year-round and participates in local music festivals in the spring. Since 2015, the concert band has only received Unanimous Superior ratings at festivals.

Students must enroll in the marching band and audition to join.

The jazz band is an auditioned group featuring saxophones, trombones, trumpets, and the rhythm section (drums, bass, piano, & guitar). This advanced ensemble rehearses and performs a variety of styles of music such as swing, Latin, funk, rock and contemporary. They perform at local "jazz nights" and compete in local jazz festivals in the spring.

“Mariachi de la Tierra is Cleveland High School’s premier mariachi ensemble. Students will act as musical ambassadors performing at multiple events on or off campus throughout the year. Students can play the trumpet, violin, vihuela, guitar, and guitarrón, and all instrumentalists are expected to sing as well.
