About Clermont Woods

Clermont Woods is a residential area comprised of approximately 340 homes in the northern portion of the Franconia (formerly Lee) District of Fairfax County, Virginia. The area is within Zip Code 22310. The Clermont Elementary School, which is approximately in the middle of Clermont Woods, has geographic coordinates of 38⁰ 47’ 41.68” North and 77⁰ 06’ 38.69” West. The area is unusual in this highly developed portion of Fairfax County and the Metropolitan Washington, D.C., region because a great number of very large trees is preserved on its large, rolling lots and many of its roads have an almost rural character, sometimes without curbs and with rural mailboxes along the way. Living among the trees and preserved natural landscape is a broad variety of native wildlife, amazingly immediately adjacent to the Capital Beltway. Please see our Trees, Birds and Wildlife page.

The area is connected by an excellent internal road system which feeds into Franconia Road to the south, which further connects to Telegraph Road to the east and Van Dorn Street to the west. The heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia is only 4.5 miles and 15 minutes from Clermont Woods; the Zero Milestone in Washington, D.C., is 13.3 miles and 33 minutes away. The Fairfax Connector bus system provides transportation throughout Fairfax County, connecting to the Washington Metro rail system at Huntington Station and Franconia-Springfield Station; the Van Dorn Street Station is nearby.

Clermont Woods is served by the Clermont Elementary School, Mark Twain Middle School, and Edison High School in Region 3 of the Fairfax County Public Schools. The area is served by many houses of worship, predominantly along Franconia Road. Excellent shopping is close by at the Rose Hill Plaza, along Franconia Road, in Kingstowne, at the nearby Springfield Town Center, and in Alexandria and the adjacent area.

....and about the Clermont Woods Community Association

The Association is a volunteer, non-profit, civic association of residents of Clermont Woods. Please see our Bylaws. Quarterly meetings frequently highlight speakers and presentations of community interest, serve as forums for discussion of community concerns and topics for improvement of the community, and focus community initiatives. The Association is led by volunteer, elected officers. Information is provided through meetings, The BLAZE newsletter, email announcements, and this Web site. Voluntary dues are $6 per year per household. Dues are used to defray printing costs, for commemorative community donations, to help support the annual graduation party at Edison High School, and for the Clermont Elementary School library. As needed, Association funds are used for the incidental expenses of administration of the Association, e.g., Association signs.

The accomplishments of the Association are best chronicled by The BLAZE, but key among them have been the 1980's effort to permanently block the Clermont Road underpass of the Capital Beltway, I-95/I-495, traffic calming in the 2000s, and establishment of the Neighborhood Watch system. Closure of the Beltway underpass was critical to preserving the character of the neighborhood and eliminating a very large volume of vehicular traffic and congestion. On an ongoing basis, members of the Association represent the community before the Lee District Association of Civic Organizations, Franconia District Land Use Committee, Franconia Station Citizens Advisory Committee, and Franconia Station S.A.L.T. (Seniors And Law Enforcement Together). ver. 11/2014
