I. Table Saw.
a. Table Saws are mostly used in Cabinetmaking.
b. Can be used for the following types of cuts:
1. Ripping
2. Crosscutting
3. Bevels
4. Chamfers
5. Grooves
6. Dados
7. Rabbets
c. The maximum size blade that the saw will take determines the nominal size of the saw.
II. Parts of a Table Saw
a. Blade Guard – keeps body parts from touching blade DO NOT REMOVE
b. Fence – Hold lumber against this to ensure straight cuts
c. Fence Rail – The fence rides on this rail
d. Fence Locking Handle - Locks the fence in place
e. Green Button – “ON”
f. Red Button “OFF”
g. Base
h. Blade elevation locking Knob – loosen before raising or lowering the blade & tighten after blade adjustment
i. Blade elevation crank – turn to raise or lower blade
j. Blade Angle Crank - turn to adjust angle
k. Protractor – tells the angle that the blade is adjusted to
l. Table Top
m. Miter Gauge – Used when cutting at an angle

IV. Safety Rules
a. Before changing blades on the table saw turn the breaker off
b. Make adjustments to the table saw when the saw is off and the blade has stopped moving
c. The blade should be above the stock a maximum of ¼” when cutting
d. Be sure that the antikickback pawls are in place before cutting
e. Keep your hands away from a moving blade at all times.
f. Never use the saw without the guard in place
g. Always stand to the side of the blade, never directly behind it
h. Always hold the stock firmly against the fence
i. Do not force the stock into the blade
j. Do not saw warped material on the Table Saw.
k. Use a push stick if the fence is within 6” of the blade
l. Do not allow your fingers to come within 6” of the blade at any time
m. The first step in using a table saw is to set the blade to the proper height.
n. The last step when using the table saw is to lower the blade below the surface of the table
o. The correct sequence of steps when operating a table saw is; 1)Adjust the cutting edge of the blade to the correct height, 2) Cut the material, 3) Lower the blade, 4) Turn the saw off.
p. Never reach over the blade
q. Keep the saw clean. Use a brush or push stick to remove scraps from the table
r. Remove rings watches and other jewelry when using the table saw because these items might
s. Dado Cuts cannot be made with the guard in place. STUDENTS SHOULD NEVER MAKE THESE CUTS. These cuts must be made by the instructor.
V. Demonstrate the process of changing blades.
