You may be able to add to or change the outside of your home provided the change is made with the approval of the Board of Directors. The changes must be made by a licensed and insured contractor and are subject to inspection and approval by the Board. The work may also be monitored by a board member. The Board will not approve any alteration or structural modification which would jeopardize or impair the soundness, safety or appearance of Clarewood.
The Board will consider requests which were options offered at the time of construction of the units. Some of these are:
- Concrete ramps to entrance door(s)
- Storm/ screen doors
- Steps from deck to yard
- Structural changes in garage
- Three/four season rooms
The following items will be considered prior to approval:
- The specifications for the modification must be approved by the Board
- A licensed contractor must be used for all projects totaling $600 or more
- The request must specify a timeframe for the work be completed
- A building permit is required
The total cost of the modification and any additional costs (including insurance) that may be incurred because of either a physical or legal issue are the responsibilities of the co-owner. You and future owners will be responsible for the maintenance of the change.
The approval process for changes can take up to 30 days. See any Board member for details.
