Clague PTSO Annual Report June 2019

posted Jun 10, 2019, 7:12 AM by Clague PTSO   [ updated Jun 10, 2019, 9:11 AM ]

Together with our principals and the staff, the PTSO fulfilled our promise from Curriculum Night to spend this year all the funds you so kindly donated!  Because we had something of a "cushion" from previous years, we even "over-spent" our budget, with the philosophy that a PTSO's purpose (unlike  that of our family budgets) is not to save, per se, but to spend money on behalf of students, teacher, staff, and the community.  We are keeping in our account a reasonable amount of seed money for next year—50% of our approx. $35,000 budget-- so don't worry!  This promise has come out of a desire on the part of Board members over the past several years not to hoard money.

Here is a partial list of what we accomplished in 2018-19

Here is the budget we worked from (Clague PTSO Budget):

  • 2 Courtyard clean-ups--several hours each of woodchipping, weeding, path-creating, and general tidying
  • 4 Fun Nights--8 hours of good, clean fun for our students with ping pong, basketball, dancing, movies, pizza and snacks, games, floor hockey, cakewalks and trivia contests--that benefited! the 8th grade DC Trip Fund, the Science Olympiad, the Foreign Language trips, and Academic Games.
  • 4 delicious spreads of light supper food at Parent-Teacher Conferences
  • 2 Amazing Staff Luncheons (Fall and Spring)
  • Many T-shirts for our entering 6th graders
  • Many DC scholarships, ensuring that all who want to go on this trip may go!
  • 1 Conference fee for our very own Ms. Kim McLean who attends the MACUL conference annually
  • Several updates to the Teachers' Lounge, the Blue House, and the Nurse's room
  • Many Courtyard Lunches so students can enjoy our unique space
  • 1 additional AED machine near the gym for the safety of all users
  • 1 Softball pitching machine (and generator!)
  • 1 large video monitor for the Cafeteria
  • (Coming Fall 2019) Cool, new signage for our building
  • Over 30 Up to $200 Teacher Grants for the following staff members: Ms. Ferguson, Ms. Nordstrom; Ms. J. Donnelly, Mr. M. Donnelly, Ms. Fleming, Mr. Cartman, Ms. M. Donnelly, Mr. Wiens, Ms. Vit, Ms. Katz, Ms. Pentzien, Ms. Reiher, Ms. Ruehlmann, Mr. Jurasek, Ms. Pelchat, Ms. Hochella, Ms. Baskey, Ms. Siewert, Ms. Morningstar, Ms. DeAngelis, Mr Taylor,  Ms. Breen, Ms. Rayford-Palmer, Ms. Lamberjack, Mr. Batkins, Mr. Harris, Ms. Slater, Ms. Kotlinski, Ms. Cornish, Ms. Mullice, Ms. Muehlmann,
  • Many items purchased with the money from those grants, including:  ESL book sets; Books for the "Cougar Cares" book club; printing costs for the Cougar Star; Classy Clague table covers for 8th grade promotion, a presentation by "Clark, the Juggler," classroom organizing materials, science equipment, music, school supplies, art supplies, PE equipment, online subscriptions . . .you get the idea
  • 1 amazing 8th grade party (coming on Thursday!)

We are so grateful for the support of Cougar Nation and look forward to another year of serving you in the fall.
