Avariel, or winged elves, are more delicate than their earth-bound cousins, with hollow bones to aid their flight. They have pale skin, often porcelain white. An Avariel's wings are usually white, but can be black, brown, or speckled. Avariel are also known to practice the dyeing of wing tips. Their eyes are slightly larger than normal and range in color from brilliant blues to green or purple. Their hair color normally is a silver-white or black.
Avariel are said to have the most beautiful voices of all the Tel'Quessir, and their songs are greatly sought after by bards of other races.
Standard Racial Traits
Ability Score Racial Traits: Avariel have hollow bones, and as a result, are more fragile than humans and their earth-bound cousins. At the same time, they are gifted with a keen intuition and intellect, and an almost otherworldly grace. They gain +4 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, and -4 Constitution.
Size: Avariel, like Elves are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Type: Avariel, like Elves are Humanoids with the elf subtype.
Speed: Avariel on land have a base speed of 30 feet.
Fly (Ex): All avariel can fly at a speed of 50 feet with average maneuverability, as long as they do not carry more than a Medium load, are not wearing heavy armor and are not fatigued or exhausted. They have a wingspan of 12 feet and cannot fly in an area where they cannot fully extend their wings. If avariels carry a heavy load or wear heavy armor, their flight speed drops to 30 feet with poor maneuverability.
An avariel can make a dive attack. A dive attack is treated like a charge, but the avariel must descend a minimum of 30 feet and attack with a piercing weapon. If the hit is successful, it deals double damage. An avariel may use the run option while flying, but must remain flying in a straight line.
Due to their wingspan, avariel must have their armor specially made to fit them. Whenever buying armor, avariel must spend 50% more of its base price.

Weaknesses
Swimming Hindrance: Normal Avariel are not able to swim due to their wings being a hindrence. Avariel cannot have Swim as a class skill, and may not put a rank into it at any time. If they fall into water taller than them, they are considered Staggered until they are out of the water. They recieve a -8 Racial Penalty to their Swim checks as well.
Alternate Racial Traits
The following alternate racial traits may be selected in place of one or more of the standard racial traits above. Consult your GM before selecting any of these new options.
Earthwalker: Some avariel tend to prefer the land like their earth-bound cousins than others of the winged folk. These elves can take any elf alternate racial traits they can take but follow the same laws as such.
Runted Wings: Some avariel were born with smaller wings proportioned to their size. Avariel like this only fly 30 feet with average maneuverability while wearing light armor. While they are wearing medium or heavy armor, they can fly with clumsy maneuverability.
They cannot make the dive attack like normal avariel but only has to spend 25% more than the base price of armor.
However, they are able to swim better than the common Avariel. They do not gain the Staggered condition if they are in water, and do not receive a racial penalty to their Swim checks.
This racial trait modifies the Fly ability and modifies Swimming Hindrence.
Flightless (-4 RP): Some avariel were born without wings, paralyzed wings, or wings that were completely cut off by slavers or thieves. Due to any of these circumstances, an avariel's bone marrow has evolved to suit land travel and grant them the ability to swim. Avariel like this gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, and -2 Constitution. This racial trait modifies the avariel's Ability Score Racial Trait, replaces Fly, and replaces Swim Hindrance.
Song of the Avariel (4 RP): An avariel's melodic voice rings whenever they speak. They gain a +2 racial bonus to Diplomacy and gains the Bard's Fascinate (Su) ability using the avariel's class level as a Bard's. If the avariel is a bard, 2/day they treat any of their bardic performances they have as 4 levels higher. This racial trait replaces Keen Senses and Elven Magic.
