consulting

I maintain a limited independent consulting practice, mostly providing program evaluation services to nonprofit organizations. Program evaluation has been a longstanding academic and professional interest of mine; my doctoral concentration was in program evaluation and policy analysis, and I'm a longtime member of the American Evaluation Association. I've designed and conducted evaluations for a wide range of program types, including:

  • out-of-school
  • informal science education
  • employment
  • college access
  • youth development

I take a very practical, use-oriented approach to conducting program evaluations, always asking clients how they intend to use the evaluation results and working backward from there. This sample evaluation report will give you a feel for the kind of work I do. (I'm posting this one because it's public domain; generally, evaluation reports are provided only to clients.) You can also read this article, which is based on an experimental-design evaluation I conducted for a local nonprofit.
